Homework Policy
Homework will only consist of standard ON-Level reading nightly, along with work that your child did not finish during the school day. It will also consist of completing the AVID planner and having it signed by a parent daily. Aside from a few instances or projects, there will be no formally assigned homework this year.
We ask that your child spend 20-30 minutes each night reading at their level. Aside from this, research has been unable to prove that additional homework improves student performance. Rather, we ask that you and your child spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early. If possible, sign your child up for an extra-curricular activity of their choice (soccer, karate, piano, etc...) . |
Each and every day students are to make sure their A.V.I.D. Binder is not only organized, but WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES. Students are to come to school prepared and on time every single day. Students are to explain in detail to parents/guardians what they did in school each day and make sure that a signature is obtained on the weekly planner. By signing the Organizer each day, you are assuring that your child has read 20-30 minutes that night at their individual level.
